I had to have my veterinarian out this evening because my horse Ace Monkey had a very swollen throat with an abscess that was draining some yellow gook. Hes had this twice before but I washed it out and kept it clean and then it would heal up and go away. This being the third time within the last two months I figured Id better have her come and take a look. I was anticipating that shed slice it open and wed find a foxtail or a big pokey piece of yucca plant, but instead she took a sample for a culture, cleaned it out real good and put him on antibiotics. Merle being the wonderful vet and very dear friend that she is asked me if I had registered yet for the Tevis? I replied that I was still thinking about it and that I still had plenty of time.... until the 11th I said, which is when the price increases by $100. She sweetly replied.... isnt that tomorrow??? Omg.... how did that date come upon us so fast when I am still procrastinating and struggling and trying so hard to find the right frame of mind so that I can just do it? Then Merle asked me what I was afraid of???? Is it the heat she said???....I thought about it for maybe a second and then replied, no Im not really bothered by the heat. Is it the cost, she asked?? Well it is really expensive and then if I order the buckle its even more and then I have to take off work and blah blah blah.... So then Merle said... Ill sponsor you....! She continued.... you always sponsor me on my bike rides and now I can sponsor you. My Merle is really something special. She takes great care of my horses and she works her butt off running around from ranch to ranch, trying to heal horses and shes always on call and never is anything less than kind and concerned for the horses best welfare. We exchange texts whenever the horses are in need but we also bait one another for our next endurance trail run. We hype each other up and then we go to the same races only I never get to see her once the race starts because shes so damn fast that shes gone home before I reach the finish line. Anyways I reply to Merle.... Thats ridiculous. Im not doing any of this for a good cause. Its just for me and I wouldnt ever want you to sponsor me. Merle then smiles again sweetly and says, Well I think you should just go and sign up and do it. Youll be very sorry if you dont.
