I had to post this review of this article written by a FB friend Kym Ftloes Nichols who knows her stuff. Great job Kym! Thank you for setting the record straight. A responsible pit bull parent is an educated one. This is THE WORST ARTICLE I have ever read. ATTN: Time Magazine..... The minute you used Merritt Clifton, Colleen Lynn, Dogsbite.org and then to top off that horridness of journalism, PETA, as sources you lost ALL credibility. Merritt Clifton is a joke. His statistics have been debunked by REAL science years ago, hes not an expert at anything except inflating his own ego. This particular statistic is just laughable Clifton says he’s seen an unprecedented rise in dog maulings in recent years, as more pit bulls enter the shelter system. Between 1858 and 2000, there are only two recorded instances of shelter dogs killing humans. From 2000 to 2009, there were three fatal attacks involving shelter dogs (one pit bull, one breed similar to a pit bull, and one Doberman.) But from 2010 to 2014, there have been 35 shelter dogs who fatally attacked humans. All but 11 were pit bulls.. First of all prior to 1980 fatal dog attacks were not categorized by breed, they were categorized by the dogs group similar to the AKC Groups ie working group, sporting group etc. Secondly, how many shelter dogs have killed humans is not a statistic tracked by any animal shelter or animal welfare organization, so Id really like to see how Mr Clifton came up with these statics. They were definitely not retrieved by any creedible source. And then to blame the so called Pit Bull problem on Hurricane Katrina, honestly I am speechless at the stupidity. Then lets turn to Coleen Lynn and Dogbite.org. This women is a hate mongering bitter woman whose primary expertise is website design and Tarot Card reading. She has ABSOLUTLELY no background with animals in any way shape or form. And lastly PETA... an organization that kills 90% of the animals they rescue I use that word loosely with PETA, an organization that wants to eradicate all Pit Bulls from the face of the earth and eradicate Pet Ownership all together. Time this is an EPIC FAIL!!!!!
