I hadnt really been on Facebook yesterday so somehow managed to miss all the dramas regarding the block of 15 election results. Firstly, I would like to say congratulations to every one who got elected. Surly we should be celebrating the political and ethnic diversity of those people elected onto block. Regarding the issue of Daniel and Arron getting elected due to the reserved FE place. I dont know all the facts in relation to the exact student status of Arron n Daniel, and Im sure that goes for a lot of other people. This is why I have not signed the open letter. I feel that if they did sign up to a college just to take advantage and increase their prospects of election due to the reserved FE places then that is not fair. Given they are both fairly prominent figures in NUS, I feel they could have got elected on their own merits and beliefs and not taken the opportunity away from a FE officer. Something that doesnt sit right with me is that senior people in the NUS leadership have been contacting FE officers to ask them to be the main signature/propose the open letter. If you feel so strongly about it all then do it yourself, dont take advantage of someone who isnt as aware of the delicate political climate within NUS. But To those newly elected people, please just enjoy and celebrate your election and dont let this impact it too much.
