I happen to be of the opinion that Glenn Miller is the Elvis Presley of the big band era. In other words hes vastly overrated. Of the scores of tunes he recorded between 1939 and 1942, about twenty of them are really good. In fact, Moonlight Serenade is one of the most beautiful recordings ever made. The rest of his catalog does not translate well across the decades. Some of them are virtually unlistenable now. To get a better idea of what Im talking about, go to YouTube and look up his recording of Three Little Fishies. Dreadful. This recording is one of the few happy exceptions. From 1941, here is Glenns rendition of By the Waters of Minnetonka: https://youtube/watch?v=41sjTudke50 Great stuff!
