I hate school projects. I specifically send my child to school so I dont have to do this stuff with him. Should he not be doing this on their time? Why do these things have to run afoul of our month and a half long gauntlet of birthdays, holidays, anniversaries and just regular family time. I dont have time to help him write (read- make him write) a multi paragraphed descriptive narrative on a fond family memory. Aside of the fact that we are a little short on those these days, the boy is as lazy and procrastinates as much as I do. So not only do I have to perform literary oral surgery to get him to create the story sections, I have to listen to him complain nonstop when all he has to do is recopy what we came up with. The hard part is done; its just minor corrections from here. Yet the trail of cursing me for making him turn a 7 sentence paragraph into a five page story would send most mothers into tears. But not I. I started making cookies. I searched the recipe, I gathered the ingredients. I carefully measured each and added them at the appropriate time. I have dough in the fridge. My rough draft, if you will. Tomorrow I will bake them and adorn them with chocolate candies. And we will eat a finished product. Leadership by example is hard, and fattening. Oh, and I still hate this project.
