I hate that moment when you roll over in the morning and catch - TopicsExpress

I hate that moment when you roll over in the morning and catch that its 6AM and all of the sudden your brain shouts at you NO ROOSTERS! and you realize you havent heard any crowing yet and in a panic you grab for glasses and pants and set out to find out why. Sure nough. Not a chicken in sight except the expired one in the grass by the pear tree. And that damn Titus has jumped the fence AGAIN, third day in a row. Since the predator hauled off four of my girls Ive been leaving him off his cable and working with him with the chickens. Clearly its not working. And naturally this was the first time weve had anything like rain in weeks so now Im trudging the property calling for my chooks praying some will come. Luckily, Pearly was smart and kept his girls in the coop. They were wide eyed and on alert so I know they knew it hadnt been safe outside. Brewster is in the kennel with a few girls but Pilgrim and Oliver and their girls are all no where to be seen. In just a few minutes though I find Pilgrim and two girls in the playhouse. Smart bird to hide in there. Its one of his girls that Id found in the grass. Eventually after soaking two pairs of pants they start to come out of hiding. Oliver shows up and I literally shed a few tears of relief. As it stands I only found the one hen dead and there are a few missing. What I dont know for sure is what happened. Its entirely possible the predator returned and Titus jumped out for that reason, maybe thats why there are still a few missing. Or if Titus just did it because he could. Regardless, Im tired of this. Just flat tired period. An LGD that has to stay tied up is worthless and I dont know when to call it quits with Ti or how to replace him. LGDs arent exactly common around here and I MUST get one that is already chicken safe. I feel like I have a monumental task ahead either way.
