I hate the expression I lost it because its usually used to describe a profound experience of the heart.… A friend I really trust told me I needed to see this movie…The descendants Just made it all the way through for the first time. I have tried a few other times ...never made it past him yelling at his dying wife....I did that.... and it was a little too hard to watch. Tonight... I made it through the mom not remembering her daughter...my mom didnt remember me at the end… I made it through the social worker telling the little girl her mom was going to die… I didnt have a social worker ....and that task fell to me... I made it through the dad saying goodbye to his baby girl… Even though my dad never got to say goodbye to his baby girl… And I have three daughters… I found it when he made the decision to save the land....you see our family stewards property that has been in our care since 1816.… I was there in the early 70s for the Hollister Ranch garage sale when the family ranch was chopped up and sold....they say art reflects life and vice a versa... Our family is far from rich in terms of dollars… and many might argue in terms of sense…But I love my family... because we learned the value of land, her beauty and her sacred space… And to every rancher and farmer that holds on to the land for love and for our descendants I say God bless you...and for every neighbor that drives by a field, a mountain or a meadow instead of a condo complex...know that someone somewhere made a sacrifice and kept an eye out… Tears I shed tonight were not because I lost it but because people I love and care about actually found it!
