I hate to always seem like Negative Nellie, but this announcement - TopicsExpress

I hate to always seem like Negative Nellie, but this announcement only raises more questions for me. Why did the numbers go up? Some years ago, school districts across the country began to add additional diploma types, thereby lowering the standards for graduation rather than putting supports in place to help larger numbers of students be successful. It doesnt really fix the problem, but it makes the schools look good. Virginia is one of the states that has many diploma types. (I have an article about this somewhere, but cant immediately remember the link. Ill post it in a comment when I find it.) My son has learning disabilities and his school pushed to move him to a standard diploma category, even though he has a very high IQ and is thus quite capable of earning a higher level diploma if there are adequate accommodations in place (and for him those were pretty simple, but largely ignored nonetheless). Long story and I really dont want to jump up on my soapbox, so will spare everyone. :-) Just curious about the reasons behind the percentage increase of graduates. Its easy to make statistics look good. The devil is in the details. Whats really behind these numbers? pwcs.edu/modules/news/announcements/announcement.phtml?aid=4430372&share=pwcsnews
