I hate to do this, since the media has been terrible about misquoting the Pope. Pope Francis speaks often, and he speaks in his native tongue. Translating his words has many times resulted in missing items that would have changed the meaning of what he said. So, I just want to address this quote as translated and written: They dont understand that love for the poor is at the centre of the Gospel, he said. Demanding this isnt unusual, its the social doctrine of the church. As kind and generous as this sounds, it is an enormous, destructive lie! The centre of the Gospel is Christ crucified for the SIN of the whole world, not material poverty. God so loved the WORLD! Not just the poor. Jesus rose from the dead, according to the scriptures as first fruits of the destruction of sin and death and WE MUST follow him by repenting of our SIN, not our poverty, our SIN! Then we must believe... God gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever BELIEVES on Him shall not PERISH but have EVERLASTING LIFE! The gospel is not a gospel about poverty vs plenty. It is a gospel about DEATH vs. LIFE!
