I hate to use Facebook as a way to criticize government officials. However, I feel it necessary . I was a high school student in Troup County, Ga. In the early sixties. Snow was predicted and started falling in mid morning. School was let out and it took five hours to get all students heme. CONGRATULATIONS TO TROUP COUNTY AND OFTHER COINTIES WHO PUT STUDENT SAFETY FIRST AND CLOSED SCHOOLS TUESDAY! Shame on those who didnt close all day. Now Mayor Reed is calling their efforts a success and Governor Deal is saying he didnt know it was coming to be a problem. A lot of the country is along fun of them for such a blunder. Deal and Reed say they have learned. They didnt learn from 2011. To me there are a few simple solutions: 1. Close schools when snow is forecast in mid day. 2. Fine all the 18 wheelers who were going straight through Atlanta when it is a clear violation of the law. They should only be inside I285 if they are delivering inside I285. 3. The State should be the last ones sent home not the first. 4. The obvious cause of the gridlock was 18 wheelers. Close the Interstates to wheelers when the snow starts. 5. Enforce the law. Stop speeding-give tickets. Deal just said that he would hated to close Atlanta and loose a day of business.. I guess kids spending the night at school and motorists stranded up to 24 hours, cars burning and being vandalized is better..
