I hated Of Mice And Men when I studied it at school. Really didnt - TopicsExpress

I hated Of Mice And Men when I studied it at school. Really didnt see the point, message or purpose behind these two itinerant workers getting into scrapes on a farm. I resented the whole thing, but, due to having a competent and tenacious teacher I remember the key points in the book vividly. When I got older I grew into those ideas and saw how Of Mice And Men threw into question the notion of a self-determinant workforce: two men who wanted to work, could work, but would never achieve a modicum of social mobility due to corruption, the landholding class and interpersonal/mental difficulties. Removing it from school curriculum is an odious mark of intent, to remove an idea that ideologically challenges the ruling class from the minds of a generation. To be impoverished financially is one thing, but this is an attempt to remove the terminology by which the poor could even articulate their dissent. (Coming Up Next Week: Jokes)
