I have Dish, and no a cheap antenna wont help. I live 50 miles north of Bangor. I have written my US senators and representative in hopes of federal law changes allowing Dish to offer me WGME as well as Boston and NY stations. If enough of us ask for the law to be changed, perhaps it will be. SAMPLE LETTER to US legislator: Would you please submit a bill changing the federal laws to allow satellite television providers to distribute all network affiliate stations carried by the satellite company, within 300 miles of a subscriber’s location, to the subscriber? This would allow the consumer to freely pick from the available stations whichever he would choose to watch. This prevents a situation like we have now, where WABI can effectively block CBS from being viewed by thousands of US citizens and consumers. Normally viewers will choose the station closest to them for the most relevant news, weather and advertising. It is even possible this would result in the local network affiliate paying the satellite company to be carried instead of the other way around. This may actually result in lower satellite package pricing for the consumer. Sent to Angus King, Senator Susan Collins and Mike Michaud.
