I have a brother who served his country with honor in the United States Marine Corps and who continues to serve his community with the Boston Police Department as the first openly gay graduate of the Boston Police Academy. I am proud to see the confirmation of Judge Pitman to the federal bench in Texas as a clear declaration of the obvious-- that members of the LGBT community are just like the rest of us, and that many demonstrate their devotion to service in the face of adversity, just like my brother, Tim Hancock.
