I have a cold. Now the 21st century consumer in me would drag - TopicsExpress

I have a cold. Now the 21st century consumer in me would drag herself to the next supermarket or pharmacy to stock up on Strepsils and Tamiflu. The medieval witch in me urges to try natural remedies this time instead. I started out with one of the biggest challenges, garlic tea (recommended to me by another witch in disguise, Rebecca), which is as horrible as it sounds. Alas, I felt I could breathe much more easily after just a few minutes. On to inhaling over boiling water poured over dried thyme, oregano and rosemary, which is really just like bending over a pizza. This is when the headache almost went away. And then after some hot water over a spoonful of cinnamon (stronger than expected) I took on the challenge of extreme alkalization with a big shot of apple cider vinegar (unbeatable in its health benefits it is said) dissolved in a glass of warm water, that was very disgusting. The experimentation continues but Im quite sure that I never again want to get packaged sweetened coloured synthetic medication. Mother Nature must be so pissed at us for swallowing Strepsils when she offers us all the remedies we need more or less outside the front door. I remember Mugabo Jimmy Adams explaining to me how plants are used as natural remedies in Rwanda. This knowledge on how nature can heal is so much more at the surface there while you have to roam through all the layers consumerism, capitalism and Western medicine have added in other regions of the world.. To continue the journey, and the roaming, I ordered a (2nd hand) encyclopedia of herbal medicine and something like an ayurveda 101. Whoever has more hints on remedies or books or websites, bring them on. My nose is still a bit stuffy and I have time to read at home.
