I have a couple of ideas for my Undergraduate Thesis that Im writing next semester, and Id appreciate anyones opinions on the topics if you have the time to share it. The first idea is that plays that use language as a central construct and are often cyclical in nature correlate with subconscious counting, and therefore provoke a different style of thinking within actors and audience members playing witness to the specific piece of work. (Im really interested in this one, but I need to refine the idea into a concrete argument) The second idea is that dialects and region specific accents allow actors to more easily step into the life and given circumstances of a character, and that the use of language and the way a character speaks can inform the audience more clearly of where this character lives in the world of a play; the use of feathery language and the precision of consonants usually informs us that a character is higher in status and educations than a character who speaks with an accent that slurs words together.
