I have a dream, and I believe elephants have dreams, too. I dream that elephants one day soon will feel free to roam in the habitats they need and that are meant for them, without fearing for their lives. And that they will use their empathetic abilities on their families and friends, and not be forced to spend energy fleeing from people invading their space or hunting them down. And I dream that elephants held in captivity will be provided with the space, autonomy and social network that they need to thrive, and that we stop causing them to suffer in the name of entertainment. Us human beings can perform in a circus, exercise and stretch ourselves until arms and legs hurt, sit or stand still in the same position for hours, and jump from the skies - but whatever we do, we do it voluntarily.
