I have a few notes on this. 1. Your bands probably didnt get booked because you are not very good. In fact this is almost certainly 100% of the problem. So take some time out and assess the quality of your songwriting, maybe even ask a friend, or better yet, ask someone who hates you, theyre more likely to be honest. 2. This is a national scale event that brings attention to the entire Australian music industry* dont be parochial. Its bad for eveyone, including you. 3. *The Australian Music Industry (and the local qld one) includes more than just your band(s). It includes managers, record labels, venues, promoters, sponsors, publicists AND bands (especially the ones whos music resonates with the public enough to get them to purchase a record). So dont tell the QLD Government that Big Sound isnt supporting QLD. It DAMN WELL is, alot more than you are. They bring people (industry and punters alike) into the valley on marginal days of the week, spending money, experience live music and supporting all the people who ACTUALLY MAKE A LIVING OUT OF DOING THIS. Which is hard enough without you going around with your very dubious stats focused entirely on whether or not you should be allowed to showcase at the conference. Again i simply implore to to BE BETTER and WORK HARDER. 4. You mentioned Livid. You old man. Just go and make the music for yourself and your fans. If youd like to play the game of life (or in this case, the expansion pack to the game of life known as the music business then play the damn game well. Everybody deserves a fair chance at the game, but look up the rules before you complain about being sidelinded. And by look up the rules I mean generally figure it out for yourself instead of complaining to mum and dad. Whomever you are, i wish you the best of luck with you music and career. Much like the rest of us in this business im sure youre finding it difficult. Just please dont go and try and put a spanner in the works of such a great initiative as BIGSOUND, were lucky to have it in Brisbane, in Australia for that matter.
