I have a friend that was a young architect that worked on the apartment for Joan when she and Al moved to NYC, there was a problem with the cantilever staircase, in which her little dogs were falling through the open spaces between the stairs. My friend constructed Plexi-glass inserts for the space in between the stairs but the cost was high and Joan nixed the idea. Next time he went to the apartment for the final touches Joan had someone make chicken wire inserts for the stairs which were almost invisible. When my friend saw them she said to him Approve or disapprove and walked away. He has shown me photos of him with Joan during the renovation, she looked glamorous in all 6 photos he had. I asked him for copies since they were never published, he told me he could not do that but would leave them to his family when he died and only then could copies be made, he had made an agreement with Joan not to publish them. I can respect that, just happy to have seen them. I always thought Approve or disapprove would make a great tee-shirt.
