I have a friend who drives over the road. One day talking to him I listened to him explain how angry he was at someone scratching his truck. He waxes and polishes his truck, takes pride in his job as well as his truck. It is good to take pride in your work however when you start to obsess over material things it can borderline be as worshipping an idol. One day when an acquaintance found out I was Catholic he blurted out how Catholics worship idols, I shook my head and grinned. I told him we dont sit and praise the statues we have around us, but instead we worship God. The statues are to us as a picture in a wallet. We like to show off our fellow patrons. We pray to our fellow patrons asking for their help but we still pray to God direct. Idol worshipping is very easy to do and something God said for us not to do. If your materialistic item gets damaged let it go, it is a material, even the Bible to some be worshipped as an idol, its still a book with written knowledge, not God. If you obsess with something on earth you take away your obsession with God.
