I have a friend who is going before a child support judge in Upson - TopicsExpress

I have a friend who is going before a child support judge in Upson County this morning at 9 a.m. The presiding judge has been discriminatory against him previously, and is likely to send him to jail (again) for failing to pay $900 a month in child support. If he were making enough to do that, he would pay it. I advised my friend to reach out for pro bono advice and the support of advocacy groups, to pressure his attorney to get his ex to negotiate a new consent order, but I think he feels too hopeless. In the small town nature of Thomaston/Upson, he claims to be well known in the community, and that the conservative judge has previously found him in contempt of court. Should he not be able to have a competent attorney to get his ex-wife (through her attorney) to sign a new consent order that is more reasonable (in line with the jobs and earnings that are presently held)? How does a judge get away with jeopardizing future earning power by throwing him in jail? Too many feel stuck in denial and feel tremendous shame when relationships end in divorce, but that should never preclude getting fair representation. Being intimidated by the justice system happens too often, I fear. I just feel that my friend has given up all hope and know that something should work out, despite his inability to pay a new attorney or convince his present attorney to work out a revision to the consent order. https://youtube/watch?v=sQnBB3J7PHs
