I have a friend who told me the other day that her boyfriend, whom shes seriously considering marrying someday, will soon be doing social service work, But hes actually always wanted to be an entrepreneur, she immediately added. And I told her to not be embarrassed about him. We all have to pay our dues. We all do. Whats important is for her to respect him, to never make him feel less of a man just because he hasnt fulfilled his purpose yet. A man can be a janitor but will still feel complete when his woman looks up to him despite what he does for a living. I understand that this is the day and age where feminist rocks and Im all for it. But Ive seen it happen way too often out there where the woman would practically (pardon my French) cut off her mans balls. Even worse, shed criticize him to his face, or talk about him behind his back to his girlfriends of how she wishes he would do be doing something else instead. So when he does leave her for another woman, it is as much her fault as it is his. And all because they had the love, the romance, the sunshine, the birds chirping, yadi yidi yada, but sadly, the respect between them was never really there. My friend and her boyfriend are a great couple. I pray that they dont become part of the statistics. Whos to say that he wont become an entrepreneur one day?! Whos to say that he might find his calling in social work?! If she genuinely loves him, then she needs to let him know that hes her man, no matter what. We all have to pay our dues.. even those whove been spoon-fed since birth; those trust fund babies, they too have to pay their dues in one form or another.
