I have a friend whom I have always admired for his strength and courage. He is one of those bright lights that, when you think your own life is in turmoil, you look at him and say, Wow. How do I complain about anyone or anything when this person has the ability to be one of Gods angels no matter what he faces? This morning, I was smiling at his positive posts and happy thoughts on Facebook. I had no idea what he had just been through. We chatted for a few minutes while I was breezing through other peoples posts. Then I noticed that someone made a post, and his name was on it. She was sending prayers out to him because he had literally been run over by a car while he was riding his bike. I thought, This cant be Bill. Surely he would have said something. We are talking right now! But it was his name. So, I asked him if he was the person they were talking about, and he said, Yes. I thought, Wow, this man was just in an accident and he has said nothing. He has only posted good wishes to everyone. Tonight, my friend felt the need to see his friends. So, he walked in the door of Kahoots, where neighborhood friends play darts on Tuesdays. He said nothing when he arrived (quite modestly), but a line formed to give him a hug. I thought Wow, this man is loved. A little later, I was shown a video of the accident scene by someone whom happened to be there. There is no way this man should have survived this accident. He was underneath the vehicle, and the fact that he was even breathing astonishes me. Tonight, his face is bruised and cut. His eyes are full of blood. He had surgery on his elbow and had numerous other injuries. When I was finally able to talk to him, because so many people wanted to hug him, I asked why that unbelievable video isnt being shared. He said, It doesnt need to be. The driver of the van that ran over him fled the scene. The firemen had to lift the still running vehicle off of this Bills body. Yet, Bill didnt want to bother me with what had happened when I was conversing with him this morning. What I would like to know is where this mans strength comes from? How does a person nearly die, yet listens to me without a word about himself? I will never understand how the purest of hearts can endure these things (without complaining about their pain), so that others can smile. I am humbled, and I am blessed, to know a person like Bill. He is as an example of how we should all be. God I feel so bad right now. I didnt know. But there is a message in this exceptional person. I dont think I need to say more.
