I have a grievance; When one walks into a pharmacy and passes - TopicsExpress

I have a grievance; When one walks into a pharmacy and passes the gym/supplement/steroid/horse additives section and there is a advisor in the section. In this instance there is a family of rather overweight individuals talking to him about diets and supplements. As he advises them I am unfortunate enough to overhear what he tells these people. Firstly he is trying to sell them several supplements, stating that one doesnt work without the other and how even he struggles to get in enough protein with his 5 shakes a day plus a can of tuna and two chicken breasts. This family is eating up his advice on diet and supplementation but he himself looks like a World of Warcraft guru. He is overweight and as far as I can tell does not get any exercise whatsoever, he is out of breath when he walks down to the store room to check stocks. All that is missing is a wrist brace from the repetitive stress injury he must have from playing computer games. Yet here he sits telling these people what to do in order to get in shape. Now the first thought that occurs to me is that they will surely see through this guys smoke screen of lies as the results should surely speak for themselves. Apparently not, they agreed with him and I suppose ultimately bought whatever he was peddling. I think its sad when people are taken in by supplementation hype, weight loss pills, etc... And even more disappointing to see people taking advantage of it. I am no expert in supplementation, the only thing we use is clean whey protein with no additives. Im sure there are a number of products out there that deliver on their claims but I am neither curious nor interested in them. The primary problem with this family; listening to what they were saying is simply that they eat too much. Even wholesome foods when eaten in excess will result in weight gain if not properly portioned. We live in a world of excess where people are encouraged not only to eat badly, but also in large quantities. The human body does not need such grotesque amounts of fuel in order to run efficiently, especially when so much of that fuel is really nothing but empty calories. And here sits this google expert endorsing their belief that there is a pill out there which will transform them.... It will just take 3 months to see the results... Its a difficult one; fitness is full of so many myths and contradictory stories that one gets lost amidst the swirl of opinions and often doesnt know which way is up. That is where it should be the responsibility of educated individuals to enlighten those of us who do not know any better. In a health store or pharmacy of all places it should be a matter of priority to ensure that the representatives of these products actually know what theyre talking about. Interested to hear peoples thoughts. Thabiso Bartholomew Moyane what say you?
