I have a little story Id like to share with this group. My son Ryan loved to watch hummingbirds at my aunts house. She bought him a feeder and year after year he hung that feeder with the right mix of water and sugar. He hung it on the porch next to a tree where he thought the birds might see it. Never once did he get a HB. Fast forward to June of 2003. My son Ryan was killed in a car accident where he was the passenger. He was 18 years and 2 days old. Also the worst day of my life. As people arrived at the house, they would sit on the porch. Low and behold there were 2 HB circling the place where that feeder hung all of those summers past. So I ran and got that feeder, mixed the water and hung it. By the next day we had 14 hummers. There were over 20 people at a time on that porch and the birds were still there. They would hover in front of them, fearless. That whole summer the feeder and other feeders we had to buy were always full of the hummers. They would get so close you could hear the wings.. They no longer come in droves like that, but whenever i see one its my way of feeling my son is near... and that hes okay.
