I have a philosophical question: How do we know that the Charlie - TopicsExpress

I have a philosophical question: How do we know that the Charlie Hebdo cover represents Muhammad? It looks like a stock Muslim to me (and it is not labeled Muhammad. If I posted picture of Cameron & told people the picture represented Churchill, would this make the picture represent Churchill? If I wrote this is Churchill underneath, would this make it a representation of Churchill? Even if we assume that the cover of Charli Hebdo is a representation of Muhammad. If the cartoon was republished (by a different publisher) with This is not Muhammad written underneath would it stop representing Muhammad? Any philosophers working on theories of representation have a take on this? Bill Wringe Rainer Brömer István Aranyosi David Butorac Merve R.
