I have a problem colt and would like to hear suggestions. My husband bought this good looking bay/white overo two year old gelding last fall. Triple bred Doc O lena with Fritz Command bloodlines. Big for a two year old. PROBLEM: colt throws himself every time saddled. We have tried mohair and neoprene cinches. All different types of pads. We have six saddles and he throws himself with all. We have tried cinching up slowly, taking back cinch off, and saddling normally. I finally lost my patience after he tore one of my better saddles up and tied him down after he threw himself again. Left him there for about an hour. Got him up and he immediately threw himself again! Tied him down, put a tarp over him and let him sulk for another hour. He threw himself again! He has been turned out for the winter in hopes that he will mentally mature. He has gotten bigger and stronger. He is easy to catch, load, worm, etc. I would love to be riding this colt but need some ideas on how to proceed. I usually saddle a green horse, ride him two or three times in a round pen and then go to work on him. Not this colt. Suggestions...good, bad, funny, sarcastic, whatever, would be greatly appreciated.
