I have a question----Our county is transcribing the 1940 census - TopicsExpress

I have a question----Our county is transcribing the 1940 census for OUR county only and plan to print a book to join all others that we have transcribed since 1850. Heres the question. As we transcribe from Ancestry should we correct all the misspelled names (after we can prove the correct spelling) that we know to be wrong OR transcribe exactly like the census is on line. We are not just assuming the name is wrong---we know they were misspelled by the census taker but are not sure how we should do the book. In our past books, we made the book exactly as they were spelled on the census form and this year a different committee is working on it and they want to change it BUT we would like to know the correct way to do it OR how other genealogy societies have done theirs. Thank you
