I have a question for any municipal Police Chiefs who might stumble upon this. Its regarding the standoff in Nevada between the feds and the cattle rancher. Id like to know how you feel about it. Before you answer, consider this alternate scenario: A peddler breezes into town and decides to set up a tent on city property..a park, perhaps..to sell his wares. (A mans gotta make a living.) City Hall says fine, but theres a $50 fee, or whatever. The peddler refuses to pay, and pitches his tent anyway. Your department is called to address this infraction. When you arrive, youre greeted by hundreds of the peddlers friends, all armed to the teeth..ready to fight for his rights. They tell you that city property should be his to use as he pleases, and to blazes with your stupid fee and your stupid laws. How would you react? Would you pat em on the back and give em a parade for facing you down, or would you try to uphold law and order? And would you hope that the town citizens would have your back if you were to take a stand?
