I have a question for any pastors or laypersons who are or who have been part of a merged congregation: when someone joins the aforementioned congregation (that has a dual affiliation, lets say American Baptist and Disciples) which actual denomination does that person join? Our congregation is in the preliminary conversation stage of a possible merger with a local American Baptist congregation. We are in the dating stage and we seem to be extremely close to one another both in polity and theology. The question arose at our last meeting. If anyone has experience with this, we could certainly use your insight! Thank you.
