I have a question for my many construction-literate friends. (And some of you are true professionals, so I have my credit-card handy and am MORE than willing to pay for advice, as Im about as stupid as they come in construction. (Also, Im not above bribery, as long as I stay a hairs breadth on the non-jail side of the law. So Ill tell you ahead of time my wonderful, fabulous daughter Lisa Cosner makes EXCELLENT cookies -- of all sorts -- and Id gladly, ummmmmm, acquire some to mail to you in payment!)) At any rate, Ive built a number of sheds, and am currently building another. I generally use plywood for much of the walls and flooring -- varying thicknesses, of course -- and I like to paint the wood before I build, at least with a primer. Ive been using the Behr floor primer+paint product, which has worked (and worn) very well for me. However, consistently, when painting very dry (Ridgecrest, right?), lightly sanded plywood, I only get a gallon to cover about 150 - 175 square feet (per coat). This is almost exactly half of what the various stores estimates are of paint coverage; and Id expect them to want to sell me *more*, not less. So am I doing something wrong here? Or are their estimates wildly off? Or am I not taking into account how much more paint it takes on undressed plywood (as opposed, say, to an already painted wall of a house, which perhaps their calculators are tuned for)? Anyway, I suppose knowing doesnt change anything. I go through about a gallon of paint for every 5 sides of a 4x8 sheet of plywood that I paint. And that looks unlikely to change. Im just curious. (Grey, not yellow.)
