I have a question for those of you that can wrap your minds around this... So far $250 has been spent on wood for the season. That equates to a full cord. One quarter of which is too long to fit in the stove, so I either need to cut it or save it for the fire pit. I am down to a weeks worth of wood without cutting it (and its only December!). I am thinking of purchasing at the very least another two full cords. That equates to $750 total for the year so far. I have Con(ned)Ed for my supplier of natural gas as long as we live here. My little wood stove insert will heat the whole house when properly stoked. Which clearly shows a use of 3/4 cord since November. So basically I askthis; is it out of the question the we spend almost $1000 on hardwood for heat in an 1890s marginally efficient house, or should I just suck it up and become and pay the man?
