I have a question/suggestion for employers/prospective employees that my son and I have been pondering. In this age of ID theft, is it necessary to ask for SS# on application? As the application passes thru untold hands before or even if a person is called for an interview, we feel it is much safer to not ask for the number until the job is offered. A background check takes just minutes and a preliminary check can be done with just name and date of birth. With name, dob and# much damage can be done!
