I have a really good thank you that I am saving for Monday. So today I want to say that I am thankful for the Stars and Stripes, the Star Spangled Banner, Old Glory. Anyone who knows history knows that a lot of thought went into that flag, our standard. The flag is more than a piece of cloth dressed in red and white stripes and a blue field with 50 white stars. It is called a standard because of the meaning and symbolism of each piece of the flag speaks to the standard to that which we believe, we live and die for. On July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress passed a resolution authorizing a committee to devise a seal for the United States of America. This mission, designed to reflect the Founding Fathers beliefs, values, and sovereignty of the new Nation. Now, more than 200 years later, that flag stands for an even higher standard. It is a symbol of everything that went into creation of our nation as well as every act that has transpired throughout history to keep our nation free! It stands for every drop of sweat and every drop of blood given in defense of that freedom. It stands for every sacrifice made both by servicemen and women as well as their families. I swore an oath to defend that flag against all enemies foreign or domestic. I would die for that flag. Many men and women have.
