I have a roundtable proposition to make; bear with me while I ramble about the backstory. Im so thankful that Im able to take photos at events. It helps me improve my photography skills, and honestly it just makes me happy to make others happy by capturing memories for them. Much of the time, though, I feel very self-conscious about bringing out my camera, especially during court or an elevation. While I want to be able to preserve these moments, I know its a jolt to see something so modern in the midst of something like that. Another thing that has been on my mind is the use of websites, social media, and newsletters in the SCA. These too are mundane things that have grown rapidly in recent years to become a very big and very important part of the administrative side of the SCA, yet it can sometimes be difficult for groups to fill these roles because of their mundane nature. Ryan and I were talking about all this last night, and he suggested I host a roundtable that can encompass all of this - Reconciling Mundane Arts in the SCA: Modern Media. I told him Id be willing to run it at Magna Faire if theres interest from the populace. Id love to get a lively discussion going with people who have widely varying opinions on whats acceptable, whats not, and what we can do to improve in general. No need to be a photographer/webmin/etc, and in fact I think it would be beneficial to also hear from those who arent, to get all sides represented. What say you all? Would this be something youd attend?
