I have a serious question, now this is not a moral endorsement of gay marriage, but I had a thought that I wanted some input on. There is a famous correspondence between Khalif Umar ibn Abdul Aziz and noted shiekh and scholar al Hasan al Basri. In this discussion Abdul Aziz is lamenting that non muslims were left to their ways by the Prophet(saws) and Rashidun. Allowing them to consume intoxicants, pork, and to marry close relatives. al Hasan al Basri basically replied to Abdul Aziz that it was none of his business or concern what the non-muslims did. Now heres the question, would this logic of application also apply to gay marriage? That the society has deemed this behavior morally or socially acceptable, so what they do amongst themselves is none of our concern?
