I have a story to relate...In mid June of this year my husband went for his annual physical. Yes, I had to nag him just a little. Following routine lab work, his PSA (prostate specific antigen) was elevated and we made an appointment with the urologist for a follow up visit. He had a prostate biopsy a couple of weeks later and malignant cells were found so we made an appointment to see an oncology urology specialist. After the staging (he was stage 3) was completed with bone scan and MRI and a Gleason Score of 9 out of possible 10 (10 being the worst) we scheduled surgery for August 25. Surgery was completed and his pathology follow-up showed that he had a significant tumor that was indeed malignant. The good news was the margins were free of cancer cells and all of the lymph nodes removed were negative. Its been 6 weeks and today we got results of his follow up lab work. His PSA is ZERO......Praise God, I have never prayed for a ZERO before, but I did and HE delivered. Because of the aggressive type of cancer he will have lab work done every few months just to make sure he stays at zero, but we are so very grateful and feel very blessed. The purpose of this post is for all you men and the women who love you....get your PSA drawn guys and ladies, nag them if necessary. His had been normal just 2 years ago and there were no in your face symptoms that couldnt be explained as normal signs of aging. Thanks to those who knew and prayed for him...now please continue to pray that he is cured.
