I have a tattoo. I got it when I turned 18. I dont regret it. Yet according to popular church counsel it has defiled my body. And it is a constant reminder of a mistake I made. I dont know what this means really. Its so contrary to how I understand the atonement. Even if I got it while high and with money made while prostituting or something, Im pretty sure the atonement can work past a little tattoo ink such that I could look at it without shame. In fact, I kind of love my tattoo. Its a reminder of my journey, not my regrets--which I have none of. Its a way to remember a past I dont want to forget and I can see it whenever I want. God knows I love the Gospel. But I dont love narrow interpretations. Thoughts? Do you have tattoos? What do they mean to you and has that changed over the years?
