I have a young facebook friend who occasionally asks rather interesting and challenging questions, usually surrounding current affairs and politics. I really enjoy answering the questions he poses, and Ive never felt judged for my responses, nor felt any need to curb my responses to appease any sensibility. I just want to let this friend know that I appreciate, and am thankful for his presence in my friend list over the years. Today he sent me a question about God, and I hope he doesnt mind my sharing my response with the rest of my friends. -- Do you believe God really exist or hes merely an imagination of human? -- As to your question today, my answer is BOTH. I believe in a universal consciousness of which we are all a part of. It is explained in many religions. But therein lies the misnomer. IMO Religion is far from God. It is the creation/imagination of humans and a political manipulation/division of the masses, however it is based in fundamental truths of life, culture, and history ... but it uses ancient allegory & metaphor, which can be interpreted or twisted whichever way the masters wish. It was the masters who decided what knowledge to include and what to suppress. This is why there are so many contradictions within. But its quite simple. They did leave some clues in the Bible ... we are made in His image. He is in us and all around us. We are the manifestation of Him. Can He control what we do and what happens in our world? No, not really. That too is explained thru His gift of free will (perhaps an allegory of the individual as separate from the universal consciousness). All we have is the influence of His teachings thru the prophets tasked to each of the continents and races. These, I believe, were real historical figures (philosophical teachers) thru whom God (the universal consciousness as one revelation) spoke. This is why so many religions share very similar stories and teachings. BTW I want to point out that Im not a creationalist. I believe the universe to be billions of years old and I enjoy topics of science. But here is an example of where Im coming from - when Carl Sagan and Steven Hawking were asked what came before the Big Bang, the answer was I dont know. Perhaps God? In the words of Albert Einstein, Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind. I believe if Einstein were alive today, he wouldve likely used the word spirituality, as opposed to religion, but I hope youre getting my drift. I believe in spirituality, but not institutionalised religion. And also, I honestly seriously believe that He is speaking to us thru facebook God. lol.
