I have already started getting Mama Caldwells, my great-grandmother, turkey roasted out of storage in preparation of the turkey. Ive decided on a menu and gotten most of the ingredients. There are certain things I have to make for Thanksgiving or there would be a rebellion in the ranks...such as green bean casserole, Mama Caldwells macaroni and cheese, squash casserole, sweet potato casserole, pecan pie and of course the turkey and dressing. I know it all sounds so heavy and it is but everybody has their favorites and they pout if you dont fix them so they can take half of it home with them when they leave...LOL. It always amazes me how it takes me at least three days to cook everything and only 30 minutes for the dinner to be scarfed down. Then we have pickers who sneak back in the kitchen ever so often, while everybody else is in a food induced coma, to lift the cover on the leftovers to pick bites of this and that. Then as the sleepers start to awaken it is time for the pecan and pumpkin pies and another round of dishes and silverware to wash. Im always dead on my feet by dark and have had at least one small breakdown trying to find a place for everything in the refrigerator, but then I replay it back in my head and smile at the jokes, sibling jabs, and satisfied smiles that are what makes up Thanksgiving Day~
