I have always been a little guilty when I remember how, standing - TopicsExpress

I have always been a little guilty when I remember how, standing out in the side yard as the burning roof of my house crashed into the basement, a friend of mine walked up to me and said: John what are you going to do now. I answered: I am going to go to Desney Land. It just popped out of my mouth, and later, seems to be such a smart assed answer to a very civil question. Especially when in the days that followed, so many others asked the same question. Some of those seeming to want to check my misery meter, possibly nudge it up a little. Some, I am sure, because they were concerned. The simple fact is that when a person is punched in the gut, they need a minute to take in another breath. If your falling down steps, at least wait until you bounce on the ground before expecting yourself to not only have assessed all the damage, but come up with some plan for the future. Loss is loss, no matter the cause. There is a period of realization, a period of assessment, and a time for grief-----and the birth of recovery. We will all, in our lifetime, face loosing so many things that are important to us----friends, family, stuff. So take a tip from an old gardener. In the fall, when the garden freezes, the plants die, the fruit destroyed, the bounty gone, learn to understand that it is the end of one season----but more importantly, learn that it is the beginning of the next. As long as we have life in our bodies, we will move forward. Accept the challenge of the change. Cultivate the future. Plant the seed of a new dream. What is lost is lost, but there is also much to be found. When one thing ends, be thankful that we can call it a beginning.
