I have always believed in God. My CCD classes gave me excellent training in the tenants of faith. But in 1983, I encountered God in a way that changed my life. I was living in Haiti and working at an orphanage. At night, I could hear the pounding of the voodoo drums next door and I knew that evil was real and that spirits had substance. I remember thinking if evil spirits can manifest, can the good forces always become tangible? Then my co-worker hit and killed a child while driving the winding roads down to Port of Prince. When I asked her how she could cope with the guilt and stress of it, she told me about her personal relationship with God and suggested I read the Bible. As I read, I realized that there was more than just knowing God in a historical way. Today, I am thankful for 30 years of walking with God as my friend.
