I have always felt that truth is worth any effort or insult, but now I am perhaps growing pessimistic. Im coming to the conclusion that arguing facts with opposing views is seldom productive. Thats because the facts usually arent the issue; its the CONCLUSION of the facts that one side or the other has come to believe is true, thats important. If people have too much of their self worth or world view rapped up in an idea, no matter how many point you can refute, or how many inconsistencies you can show, its just too emotionally hard for those people to consider the possibility that something so central to their mindset could be wrong. If they arent open to other possibilities, or cannot admit even one valid point, there really isnt much you can do through argumentation, and your efforts would be better used in other pursuits.
