I have always had a sneaking suspicion that Hafid was mistakenly born a Somali. He is from a large Majeerten family and very misunderstood. Hafid is the farthest thing from a Somali. He doesn’t know the difference between dhaanto and niiko, shah rinji or cadeys. His friends don’t have strange names like Cali Caato, Faisal Fanax, Jiijoney, Cambaro or Cumbulle. He enjoys the company of pale white women, history, book clubs, and snow. You will find Hafids in Wisconsin, Canberra, or Brussels. Hafid lives a middle-class lifestyle with his boring wife Jenny and 2 kids. Once 45 hits, most Somali men his age get a 2nd or 3rd wife, a new ford territory, or start a money remittance business. But not Hafids, they tend to have an overwhelming yearning for all things Somali. I think it is just a delayed reaction. At this point they decide to move back to the Motherland, in which you will find (older) Hafids consulting for large corporations or NGOs in Nairobi, Hargeysa, or Kampala.
