I have always told ppl that cantonese is an artistic and imaginative language - it is the only language i know which its vulgarities sound like poetry. Anyway to give u an example we cantonese have a saying; New toilets are fragrant for 3 days It is imaginative becoz u are forced to marvel and question why are new toilets fragrant for only three days? Becoz simply thru the usage of toilets i.e shitting and urine yr toilet becomes stinko. However the phrase is poetic becoz the shit and urine are silent in the phrase and not mentioned. However though they may be silent, shit and urine is always there. In place of shit and urine we say the toilet is FRAGRANT for 3 days. How positive we look at the toilet and life and yet how near to nature are we. The marvellous thing is that this phrase is not even about toilets at all. Usually used to describe new things have certain pattern after that it is still the same old shit. Today i write this post becoz i literally have a new toilet. All thanks to iris. So we can expect a FRAGRANT toilet for the next 3 days!!! Gwee english language got so elegant or not? And Tristan Peh and Patrick Poh, how yin yang is this? I ching at play again!!
