I have an observation to make, then Ill step back and let the attacks on my observation begin. Please keep in mind that this is only my personal observation. How many of you focus on producing a strong queen, and by extension a strong colony, first and foremost? I keep seeing posts about harvesting honey, as soon as possible, as fast as possible, and as much as possible. While I understand that if you keep bees you will want to harvest honey, in my opinion there is something even more important. With all of the challenges that the bees are facing in our time, why would you not focus on producing stronger bees, instead of little honey machines that have to be re-queened every 6 months? My bees are my first priority. Their honey comes in second. I want a healthy hive that can handle the challenges that Florida has to offer. We have more than our fair share of hive killers here. If they can fight their way through a year and then produce an excess of honey, then more power to them. Especially considering that from June-September, feeding is a necessity in some areas because there arent enough flowers for those months. But I digress. I am not attacking anyone. I am simply making a personal observation.
