I have an unfortunate habit. I always have to read the comments of any media I find on the Internet. Unfortunate because, as anyone who reads YouTube comments knows, you frequently come across the worst examples of stupidity and ignorance, hiding behind anonymity. In all my trawling of comments over the years, theres always one sure fire way of telling the comments are from the United States. Its the ability of a person to tell, from one obscure, offhand comment, the political affiliation of someone. Whether they are conservative or liberal, and then dismiss them, because all idiot liberals are like that or vice versa. It often comes out of nowhere and Im left shaking my head and asking how they could possibly know? At this point, all civilised discourse tends to go out the window, as the comments descend into a petty slanging match where the two sides trade insults. If you take YouTube comments as a microcosm of the US, and God help you if you do, youll see a perfect example of the divide and conquer rule at work on the American people. Where constant political commentary creates division and hatred, where there ought to be none. Its a uniquely American trait as well, the ability to sniff out a conservative or liberal, as far as I can tell. I really dont see it anywhere else. Im always left thinking, if they could just stop hating on each other for a while, they might be able to sort their mess out. Of course, thats why the whole political process works so well, if youre at the top of the pile. So perhaps theres something to be gained from reading comments after all, but I still wish I could stop doing it. Anyway.. I’ll leave it now, because I sound like a libtard, they always drone on and on about stuff like this. Don’t they?
