I have been a prosecutor. I am primarily a criminal defense attorney now. And as of this week, I am a victim of identity theft and credit card fraud. Apparently a young woman in Tallahassee named Tameka Bellamy was arrested this week and when Tallahassee Police Department officers canvassed her hotel room and car, they located dozens of stolen checks and credit cards from various individuals, including one ganked from Ol Hobbs. And Im sorry if Bellamy is your cousin or friend but I cant let this ride without putting her on front street (not to mention that her arrest is now public record). I just hung up with officers who indicate that Bellamy was part of a ring that was going around and stealing mail from peoples mailboxes. I guess the lesson in this is that I and others must go back to the old school and get a PO Box number with a key. And on a lighter note, as there may be many other folks arrested or indicted in state and/or federal court for these acts, it will be very interesting to see if some scared suspect or their family winds up calling my law office for a consultation not realizing that one of the victims is the lawyer whose services they seek SMH....
