I have been accused by quite a lot of Hindu right-wingers as a traitor for renouncing my ancestral religion. As if following the thought process of our ancestors in itself is super-intelligent and noble! My response to them has been that I am the most sincere follower of our ancestral religion, which is none. Only they have become traitors. Think about it. Our modern human ancestors came from Africa. Which religion did they follow when they were in Africa? Which religion did our Hominid, monkey-like ancestors follow back there, before them? Our frog-like ancestors? Our fish-like ancestors? And our bacteria-like ancestors? Which ancestors are we talking about here? If some of our immediate ancestors can take the liberty to chart a course very different from THEIR own human ancestors and become Hindus, we arent doing anything principally different when we take the same liberty to chart our own different course. Elementary, dont you think? So, the next time the Sangh Parivar, Suki Sivam, Ramagopalan, Gurumoorthy, some roadside Adigalar and their ilk make their nonsensical ancestor argument, just tell them who has actually renounced their ancestral faith!
