I have been active in pressure groups and political organizations, ever since I was a lad. I have never been complacent about anything that affects individuals and society as a whole. I have always had empathy towards the less fortunate, defended minority rights and, understood the importance of a clean, sustainable and healthy environment. I might have chosen different ideologies and political entities to voice my views and, have discovered in the process their shortcomings and assets and learned from them. Yet my honesty will remain undeterred. My values of not causing unnecessary suffering to humans and animals and protecting our environment will remain axiomatic to me. The idea of being an activist has always attracted me, as it has given me the opportunity to form part of an entity or entities that share a number of opinions about society that I do. I am proud of what I believe in and, far from ashamed of what I used to in the past. I have always held the view that beliefs could evolve in time i.e. if one is persuaded by more convincing argument one should change his/her opinion. Yet, it has also been my view that this should be ethically motivated, rather than instigated by possible favour, profit or compensation. Those who stick to a belief at all costs to the detriment of human progress, are nothing other than fanatics. In the same way those who do so for their own profit are nothing other than dishonest. I am also aware of the fact that no idea or entity is God sent or infallible. I evolve and change as do all those with gumption. I contribute. I do not follow. I do not BELONG. I am proud to form part of a political party which has brought progress to our country, has made mistakes but is learning from them.
