I have been asked by a page friend to say something about Palestine. Well one of my late great uncles was Col. Ray Cafferata who led the Palestine Police post WWII and it has been a topic much discussed in my family as he was targeted by Zionist terrorists (my paternal grandfather, on the other hand, Prof. Otto Mikkelsen, was imprisoned by the Gestapo for smuggling Jews from Denmark to Sweden). My view is that the Palestinians have a very raw deal generally speaking. I do not think they have, generally, been treated well by the Israelis, but I do believe in the right of Israel to exist and protect itself (and I have the greatest respect for their army and intelligence services). I have seen the excesses of radical Palestinian groups as well (first hand). I have also see the Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon, Syria and Jordon. A very tough question indeed... but, T.E.Lawrence probably got it wrong when he wrote home to his mother pre-WW1 the sooner the Jews farm in all [Palestine] the better it has caused such strife. Jews and Arabs are the same people racially and should be able to come together. There must be a time, as in Ireland, when people simply get bored of the killing... meantime, the media seem to report disproportionately on Israeli casualties compared to Palestinian ones, particularly in the US. Iranians and Saudis also bear significant blame for fueling conflict.
